Summer camp remains a favorite summer vacation experience for thousands of American youth to this day. Because summer camps have the capacity to touch students’ lives in powerful ways, Indiana Wesleyan University has chosen to send some of its students to summer camps across the nation for the purpose of ministering to hundreds of middle and high school students through the months of June and July.
IWU students who choose to pursue this opportunity are assigned to one of six summer ministry teams: Revolution, Shine, NTS (Never the Same), Amplify, Overflow and Catalyst. The NTS team hosts a camp on IWU’s campus for students across the country to attend—while the other five teams travel to campgrounds across the country where they stay for one or two weeks before traveling to a new camp site.
Each team has the exciting opportunity to spend time getting to know every student they meet during worship services and camp activities. Students will act as camp counselors for the summer as they plan activities for students, select music to lead worship and pray with the youth they meet each week.
Students who are interested in joining these traveling ministry teams have the opportunity to apply every fall in September and October before being interviewed in November. Applications will be available in the Church Relations Office. Students will find out whether or not they have received a position in December, and they will begin attending meetings after Christmas break to prepare for the summer.
