31 Days of Prayer for Your College Student

Thank you so much for joining us the past 31 days in praying for your student. We invite you to continue to pray for them as they seek to strengthen their love for God and others throughout the semester! We are sharing the different prayer prompts below, along with relating Scripture that you can use to guide you during your time in prayer.

1. Instructors & Administrators

Pray that Christ-like decision will be made by administrators and faculty. Pray for encouraging and uplifting interactions with your student.

“Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” – Proverbs 11:14

2. Mentors & Accountability Partners

Pray that mentors, friends, and accountability partners will be present and influential in your student’s life.

“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another” – Proverbs 27:17

3. Relationships with the Opposite Sex

Pray for purity, guidance, and peace in interactions and relationships with the opposite sex. Pray that your student will grow in his or her understanding of Christ’s love.

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” – Colossians 3:12-14

4. Direction & Wisdom

Pray that your student will seek God’s direction and wisdom in times of need and in big decisions.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

5. Achieving Goals

Pray for God to affirm the goals and dreams of your student’s heart. Pray that your student will honor God with work towards those goals.

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:10

6. Homesickness

Pray for God’s comfort as your student experiences homesickness. Ask God to use relationships, roommates, and mentors to provide support to your student.

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.” – Isaiah 26:3-4

7. Pure Hearts

Pray that your student will not work to edify man, but will work to edify God with a pure heart, good conscience, and sincere faith that leads to love.

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” – Psalm 51:10

8. Boldness for Faith

Pray that your student will boldly share his or her faith and testimony with others. Ask God to bestow upon him or her a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline.

“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” – Hebrews 11:6

9. Spiritual Disciplines

Pray for your student’s time in prayer and in God’s Word. Ask God to reveal Himself in new ways.

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” – 2 Timothy 2:15

10. Hope in God

Pray that your student will place his or her trust and understanding in God and not in self-reliance.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Phil 4:6-7

11. Preparation for Life

Pray that God will mold and shape your student so that he or she may be in alignment with God’s purposes.

“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” – Proverbs 16:9

12. Following God’s leading

Pray that your student will remain receptive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” – John 16:13

13. Coursework & Exams

Pray for wisdom and good recall as your student prepares for tests and exams. Pray for a calm spirit and diminished anxiety.

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” – Colossians 3:17

14. Resilience

Pray that God’s love and truth would act as a protective barrier for your student’s confidence and perseverance when encountering trials and difficult times.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” – Hebrews 12:1

15. Challenging Beliefs

Pray for your student to encounter beliefs or ideas that counter his or her own beliefs. Pray that his or her faith will be strengthened through understanding other perspectives.

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” – 2 Peter 3:18

16. Parental Guidance

Pray for God to guide your words as you balance offering advice to help your student and freedom to encourage independent problem solving.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” – James 1:5

17. Finances

Ask God to provide for the financial needs of your student and your family.

“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” – Matthew 7:11

18. Time Management

Pray that your student’s choices in balancing time spent towards academics, social life, and holistic health will be honoring to God.

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” – 2 Cor. 9:8

19. Encouragement from Fellow Christians

Pray that God will place Christ-like brothers and sisters around your student. Pray that your student will judge the character of others according to Christ’s character.

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” – 1 Thess. 5:11

20. Roommates

Pray for the relationships that result from living together as roommates. Pray for God’s intercession, as well as patience, grace, and learning, in roommate conflicts.

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” – 1 Peter 4:8-10

21. Purity in Thought, Word, & Deed

Pray that your student will honor God with his or her choices and time. Petition to the Lord to help your student stay away from temptations that are not edifying to God.

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” – 1 Cor. 10:13

22. Family Connectedness

Ask the Lord for good communication and quality time during this time while your student is away.

“For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ.” – Colossians 2:5

23. Cultural Understandings

Pray for experiences that will change your student’s cultural understandings of self and others. Pray that God will help your student seek reconciliation for all people to one another.

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called,  with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love,  eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—  one Lord, one faith, one baptism,  one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.  But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift.” – Ephesians 4:1-7

24. Involvement on Campus

Pray for God to provide opportunities for your student to learn through extracurricular involvement. Pray that your student will boldly step into these challenges.

“We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” – Romans 12:6-8

25. Student Leaders

Pray for wisdom, discernment, and the hearts of student leaders on campus. Pray they would be equipped by God to do His work.

“For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” – Proverbs 2:6

26. Church Involvement

Pray that your student will find and connect with a local church congregation. Ask God to provide direction and opportunities for connections.

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,  not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” – Hebrews 10:24-25

27. Heart toward Scripture & the Gospel

Pray your student will not take for granted the provision of the Lord and the freedom with which we are able to worship.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” – Romans 12:2

28. Identity in Christ

Pray that your student will recognize his or her worth and identity in the love of Christ. Pray that God will make His abounding love known to your student.

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” – 1 Peter 2:9

29. Growth in Christ-likeness

Pray that your student will seek to display the character and actions of Christ. Pray that the fruits of the Spirit will be visible in your student’s actions and words.

“Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.” – 1 John 2:6

30. Learning from Mistakes

Pray for resilience, understanding, and self-compassion in times of learning from mistakes. Ask God to guard your student from larger frustrations and disappointments in the future.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9

31. Knowing God more

Pray that your student will more fully know the character of God and deepen his or her relationship with Him.

“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ” – Philippians 3:8
