2019 Parent Bucket List

New year, new goals! This year, we want to challenge you to complete our 2019 IWU Parent Bucket List, which is packed with fun activities you can do with your student. Experience all Wildcat Country has to offer in 2019, and check out our must-do’s below!

1. Attend an Athletic Event

Does your student participate in IWU athletics? Attending a game is a great way to show support and meet your student’s friends. Even if your student is not an athlete, attending a game together is a great way to show your Wildcat pride. Visit http://www.iwuwildcats.com/SIDHelp/masterScheduleto view the athletics schedule for the 2019 Spring Semester.

2. Send Your Student a Care Package

Have you noticed that your student is suffering from syllabus shock and stress? A care package with treats, handwritten notes or stress-relieving toys like playdough is a special way you can demonstrate to your student all the support they have at home.

3. Attend Family Weekend

Family Weekend is a tradition full of fun activities for all ages. Kicking off on Friday, March 22 and lasting until Sunday, March 24, Family Weekend will provide several opportunities for you to experience IWU life with your student. For more information, visit https://www.indwes.edu/events/family-weekend/.

4. Post a Picture in Front of the IWU Wall

When you’re on campus, take a picture in front of the IWU Wall, located in the Barnes Student Center outside the Piazza. Take turns striking poses or making silly faces, and finish up your photo session with a family selfie!7.

5. Visit Ivanhoe’s

Do you like ice cream and large portion sizes? If your answer is ‘yes,’ then Ivanhoe’s is a good place to take your student for ice cream. You will quickly see why Ivanhoe’s continues to maintain its popularity among IWU students.

6. Try McConn

Have you tried a McConn beverage yet? If not, the coffee shop has a variety of warm, cold, chocolatey and fruity drink options. If your student has a favorite menu item, give it a try!

7. Challenge Your Student to Join a Club

Campus clubs and organizations are a great way for students to connect, make friends and de-stress. If your student has yet to join a club, challenge them to pick at least one and attend a few events or meetings. Encourage your student to make the most of their college experience.

8. Attend Chapel

Chapel is a long-standing tradition in the IWU community. Attending chapel with your student is one way to experience part of your student’s everyday life. Chapel services are held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning at 10 a.m. in the Chapel Auditorium.

9. Pray in the Williams Prayer Chapel

The Williams Prayer Chapel is a peaceful little building outside IWU’s academic buildings. Some students find that the prayer chapel is a good, quiet place to pray in solitude. Give it a try and let us know in the comments below if you enjoyed your experience in the prayer chapel!

10. Visit During Homecoming Weekend

Homecoming weekend involves fun activities for the whole family. Your student is sure to be looking forward to the event when the fall 2019 semester begins. For a taste of IWU Homecoming, visit https://www.flickr.com/photos/iwu-alumni/collections/72157675843063298/.

11. Attend Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day is a special day every year designed to pay tribute to the special relationships that exist between grandchildren and grandparents. Grandparents are able to experience what campus life is like for their grandchild—they can even attend class together! All family members are welcome and may register here. Stay tuned for 2019 dates.

12. Wear IWU Apparel

The IWU bookstore has several options for family members, including t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and mugs for grandparents and parents. Visit https://iwugear.com/to view a few of these options. Check out the on-campus store to see even more options!

Have you already completed any of the items on this list? Which ones do you plan to do this year? Let us know in the comments below!
